Application Portfolio

Application Portfolio Looking back at your initial reflection (your very first blogpost), what do you feel you know now about psychology that you didn't at the beginning of the semester?  I feel like I have much deeper understanding to the things I already did know. Like in the beginning of the semester, I understand a decent amount but not to the extent that the class taught me. I definitely understand a lot more, and the reasons for many different  characteristics  people have.  Now at the end of the semester, how do you see psychology as relevant to your everyday life, major, and/or future career? I think psychology is extremely relevant to everyday life no matter what situation you might be in. I think it is very important to understand how people operate in order to accomplish anything. Whether that might be an argument or a situation at work. I think in order for the world to operate, everyone should understand some psychology . Because I feel like by u...

PORTFOLIO: Unit 5 Application Reflection

PORTFOLIO: Unit 5 Application Reflection After being in psychology and learning the effects of how stress can really affect someone, I am starting to understand how it can weigh so heavy. I learned how stress can be a very big impact on a person's mental health, and how by having too much stress it can be easily be overwhelming and extremely negative both emotionally and physically. Some stressors that I am personally worried about for the end of the semester is really just school, and exams. I struggle with seasonal depression, since I am person who really bases their moods off the environment and their surroundings. So when it is cold like this, I find it harder to do tasks that were so simple for me before. I also always worry about my grades, since I really do want good grades but it is also hard to find the motivation this time of year. Some ideas I have in order to help myself are to make sure I try to plan ahead as much as possible, so I do not feel ...

PORTFOLIO: Unit 3 Application Reflection

I have chosen to talk about the bystander effect, since I feel like it is a very intriguing topic that has always made me question what I have learned about throughout the years. I first learned about the bystander effect in middle school English class, when we talked about the story of Kitty Genovese. I remember my teacher prompting us with a question about what we do if we witnessed a stabbing, and at the time everyone agreed that we would call the police and help. But then she explained the story of Kitty and the "bystander effect", which I learned is that people are less likely to help during a crisis when more people are around since they feel less of obligation to help if they think someone else can just do it. And Kitty's story was extremely upsetting to hear when I learned that she was so close to living. Kitty had gotten off work late at night, and was going to her apartment right across the street from where she parked her car. But this man had followed her and ...

PORTFOLIO: Unit 2 Application Reflection

Unit 2 Application Reflection After looking through the list, I would say that I am really good at creating schedules of my assignments in order to keep track of them, so I know when they are due or not. I also tend to look up a lot of words I do not understand, since my vocabulary could use some work. I do try to think about the main idea after I read things. In all honesty, after seeing this list showed me that I do not have the most healthy study habits. I personally feel like growing up, when it came to school it came so natural and easy to me I did not have to study. So after years of not having to study, I am a college student now and really struggling. I would say my best strength would be my schedule and organization since I am really good at planning, but I really need to work on my time management and focus ability. I tend to stay really busy, so I never consider the extra time I might need for certain things. But after these first couple weeks of my sophomore year of c...

PORTFOLIO: Unit 1 Application Reflection

The availability heuristic is, in simpler terms, a mindset that people with certain information that comes to mind in order to make decisions about the future. I personally feel like this concept is important to understand, since it is not very rational at times. Like some people choose to not do certain things, because they might be so scared based off experiences they have heard. Within the real world, I feel like this mindset does not work out all the time since it leads to bad-decision making. Since I am finance major, and want to eventually go to law school I feel like this mindset would not work out in these types of career fields. Since these careers involve a lot of rational thinking for business transactions, court hearings, etc. Even within everyday life, this mindset is not practical, but is easy to believe at times. And that is why it is important for people to understand, and be aware of it.

How does Psychology Apply to My Life?

What do you know or what have you been told about the field of psychology?                 My whole life I have always thought psychology was just the study of the way people                             think.   I also assumed that people who studied psychology just want to be therapists. But                        within this class, I know I will learn so much more. Do you expect that you'll utilize anything you learn in Introductory Psychology as part of your major/career goals?  Why or why not?                 Yes, I do think I will utilize the things I learn in Introductory Psychology, since I want to                     be a real estate...
